Raphael Biss is a Scottish-French writer and director currently developing several feature films, including High And Dry, When All The Colours Fade Away, and Unshakeable, as well as premium television series A Decent Man and T1761.
He recently wrapped principal photography on Forged, a medieval drama based on the first recorded female jouster.
His work is driven by ambitious true-inspired stories that explore human resilience under extreme moral and physical pressure. He made his feature debut with Savages In Foreign Lands, an international production shot across the Atlantic and centred on the lost civilisation of the Guanches. Released theatrically in 2017 and broadcast worldwide, the film established his interest in large-scale, challenging narratives.
A graduate of the National Film & Television School, Raphael’s award-winning work has screened at BAFTA- and BIFA-qualifying festivals, earning accolades including a Royal Television Society Award, Best British Short at the UK Film Festival, and Best Short Film at Seoul. His feature script When All The Colours Fade Away, was shortlisted at Le Groupe Ouest in 2021.
He has shadowed Alex Garland (Devs), Ricky Gervais (After Life), and Peter Hoar (Nolly, Da Vinci’s Demons), and has been mentored by Ben A. Williams (Sherwood). Raphael is a member of Directors UK, the French Society of Directors, and BAFTA.
